Call The Karma Clinic in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire to find out more about Areola Restoration from our micropigmentation specialist. Our friendly and highly specialised staff are on hand to guide you every step of the way.
Those who have had surgery for breast cancer may be considering treatment for areola restoration, commonly known as areola tattooing or a nipple tattoo. At The Karma Clinic in Aylesbury we have a highly qualified and experienced micropigmentation specialist who carries out the areola tattooing and can help with the issues surrounding this type of treatment. The nipple tattoo procedure is very safe and can help to restore your body confidence following a serious illness. The process is called Areola Restoration, also referred to as micropigmentation or areola tattooing.
What Is Involved?
Areola tattooing can take place once you have undergone reconstructive surgery. The areola is created/coloured using a medical tattooing procedure and this can also help to cover any scar tissue, improving the overall appearance of the breast.
Our experienced micropigmentation specialist can also use this technique to disguise the appearance of scar tissue and burns, giving the skin the same colouring as the surrounding skin, thus making the scar far less obvious. Cosmetic tattooing can also be used for semi permanent eyebrows and eyeliner.
Areola tattooing can be considered along the lines of a standard tattoo, although pigments are used instead of inks. These pigments are placed within the dermal layer of the skin and the process can take between one and two hours. We understand that you may have concerns about the nipple tattoo procedure being painful, but there is almost no pain involved as a numbing cream is used on the area to be treated before the procedure begins. Some people may experience a little discomfort but this soon subsides.
Aftercare For Areola Tattoo
Recovery time following areola tattooing is very quick. You may find that the treated area is slightly swollen and, although this may last for a few days, the area soon returns to normal. Our experienced micropigmentation specialist will explain how the the nipple tattoo and the colouring works. To complete the treatment you have to have two treatments roughly 4-6 weeks apart. When the treatment is first carried out the colour can be much deeper than expected, but this will fade over time and will practically disappear after your first treatment. This is because the pigment is layering down below the skin. Then, when you come back for your second treatment, a visible layer of pigment will be left on top of the previous layer, completing the process.
Every patient is different and the colour will settle into the skin slightly different with each individual. At your initial consultation, Caron will discuss this with you as she will look at factors such as your age, your lifestyle and your skin type, and how these will affect the process of areola tattooing.
