Winter Skincare Tips

There is so much to love about winter! Cosy knitwear, crisp mornings, hot chocolates and open fires, however, the joys of winter often aren’t so great for our skin. Find below our top tips for looking after you skin this festive period.

Your skincare routine

As with any time of year, a good skincare regime is critical. During the winter months, you don’t need to completely change your whole routine, just making a few simple switches can make all the difference. Winters cooler weather mixed with temperature changes – cold outside, and hot and dry inside can be very harsh on the skin. This can cause dryness, tightness, flaking and discomfort. This leaves skin calling out for more comforting and richer textures. You may want to swap a few of your usual formulas for something a bit more hydrating and nourishing in the colder months. Winter skin just needs that little extra TLC!

Fluctuating temperatures

Fluctuating temperatures and the cold, dry air in winter can cause significant water loss from the skin, this can cause redness and rosacea flare ups. One of our hero products is AlumierMD’s Ultimate Boost serum. This hydrating, skin strengthening serum restores your skins hydrolipid moisture barrier, deeply hydrates and boosts the skins structure and resilience.

Year-round sun protection

Don’t skip the SPF!!! Adequate sun protection is just as important in the winter months. The damaging UV rays that cause DNA damage and premature skin ageing such as wrinkles and age spots are ever present during the winter, even if it looks dark and cloudy outside! We recommend a stand alone SPF of at least 30, every day of the year, even throughout winter.

Hydration

Keep a hydrating lip balm to hand. The skin on our lips doesn’t produce oils in the same way as the skin on our face. This means they are much more susceptible to getting dry, sore and chapped. We recommend gently exfoliating the lips regularly to slough away any dry, flaky skin and then applying a hydrating lip product throughout the day.

Skip the active ingredients

Skip the actives! We all know how incredible pharmaceutical grade active ingredients like retinol and exfoliating acids are for keeping our skin looking brighter, smoother and more youthful, however, if you skin is already feeling compromised, these could exacerbate skin reactions. Listen to your skin! Hold off using them, use reduced strengths, or reduce frequency if your skin is very dry, chapped or sore.

Wash your hands

Look after your hands too! Washing hands regularly is especially important over the winter months to reduce transmission of all those nasty winter bugs and viruses. Always keep a rich and nourishing hand cream in your bag and apply regularly between washing to avoid dry, chapped and sore hands.

Nutritious foods and drinks

Eat well and stay hydrated. We all love indulging and treating ourselves over the festive period, however keeping your diet and water intake in check can reap huge rewards when it comes to your skin. Staying hydrated by drinking water is probably one of the best diet related changes you can make for your skin. Your nutritional intake also plays a role. Try to limited processed, sugary foods and ensure that you are nourishing your body with whole foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals and fatty acids.

Book an in-clinic skin treatment

Book a facial. You and your skin deserve to be treated as well this festive season! Treat yourself to some self care and give your skin some much needed care and attention by booking in for a facial, your skin will really thank you for it!

Fat Dissolving Injections: How do they work and are they safe?

Fat dissolving injections have grown hugely in popularity in recent years as a safe and effective method of reducing stubborn pockets of fat. Fat dissolving injections are perfect for those that may be finding it hard to reduce these stubborn fat pockets through traditional methods such as diet and exercise, providing an non-surgical alternative to invasive liposuction…. but how do they work, and are they safe?

How do Fat Dissolving Injections work?

Fat dissolving injections contain the active ingredient called Deoxycholate acid, this is a bile acid that naturally occurs within our bodies. Injecting this substance directly into the fat cells dissolves the fat cells membrane, which then causes complete breakdown of the fat cell. The fatty acids from the cells are then released into the body and then brake down and are excreted through our usual metabolic processes.

What can I expect from my Fat Dissolving Injection treatment?

The first step would be to book in for a free consultation with our Aesthetic Nurse Prescriber. The nurse will examine the areas that you wish to be treated, and will be able to give an idea of cost and expected treatment outcomes specific to you.

Generally, a course of treatment is recommended, however the number of treatments and treatment frequency will depend on the size of the fat pocket, and your desired outcome. The nurse will ensure that you are a good candidate for treatment by running through your medical history with you, and asking questions about your general health. If you are a good candidate for treatment, and decide that you would like to proceed with treatment, you will then be re-booked for treatment at a time that is convenient for you.

On the day of treatment, your nurse will mark out the areas to be treated to ensure effective and even distribution of product. The fat dissolving solution is then mixed with a local anaesthetic to ensure the treatment is as comfortable as possible. The time taken to inject could be anywhere from 5-45 minutes depending on the area/s being treated. After treatment, the treated area may be bruised, and there may also be some swelling after treatment.

The timeline to see visible treatment results can vary depending on the area treated as well as the individual’s metabolism. Many people begin to see changes around 3-4 weeks after treatment, with final results usually visible after 6-8 weeks.

If you remain a healthy weight after your course of treatments, the results are permanent. We recommend that you continue to live a healthy lifestyle to maintain your results.

Are Fat Dissolving Injection safe?

As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks with treatment. This is usually limited to the potential for mild and tolerable side effects such as some bruising and swelling. Your nurse will discuss your medical history and general health in depth prior to treatment to ensure that you are a good candidate for treatment, this minimises this risk of adverse effects. If fat dissolving injections are administered incorrectly, or in unsafe volumes, there is a small risk of damage to the skin and surrounding structures. For this reason, we would recommend booking in with an experienced and trustworthy provider only, that is using a product that is CE approved, this means that it meets the required safety standards for use. At The Karma Clinic we use Aqualyx. This product has been used in over 50 countries across the globe, with over 2 million procedures safely carried out.

Dermal Fillers: Fact vs Myth

Myth #1: All dermal filler brands are the same.

Fact
All dermal filler brands are not created equal. The core component of dermal filler is hyaluronic acid; a natural, water loving molecule that we all naturally have within our skin. However, they differ vastly in terms of longevity, texture and formulation.

Some brands invest heavily to ensure their formulations are biologically more accepted by the body, and are able to adapt to facial movement, thereby reducing the risk of potential side effects, and giving much more natural results.

It is important to ensure the filler being injected is from a reputable brand that is either FDA approved or CE marked. This signifies that the dermal filler complies with the rigorous health, safety and environmental protection standards set by regulatory bodies.

It is also worth noting that the dermal filler is obtained from a reputable source. There are many counterfeit goods on the market. All dermal fillers should be obtained from a reputable pharmacy. Don’t be afraid to ask your practitioner what dermal filler they are using, how they source it, and if it meets the criteria listed above.

Myth #2: Anyone can administer dermal fillers.

Fact
There are many ‘lay people’ who have started offering dermal fillers and other aesthetic procedures in recent years. Unfortunately, the industry is still largely unregulated. This is something we are hoping will see change in the coming years. However, at present this leaves customers understandably feeling confused as to who to choose as a trustworthy and reputable practitioner.

The truth is, it takes an experienced injector to give optimum treatment results, whilst also maintaining patient safety. Aesthetic nurses are regulated healthcare professionals, who must revalidate every 3 years to evidence that they have met the required number of practice hours, and have sought continued professional education and learning within their field of practice. They also must adhere to a strict professional code of conduct, which further helps you to feel confident and safe in their care.

Myth #3: Dermal fillers will make me look fake, overdone or unnatural.

Fact
You may have been put off dermal fillers having seen images or articles in the media of celebrities or others in the spotlight looking ‘fake’, overfilled and unnatural.

Dermal filler doesn’t need to look this way! The very best dermal filler work should be natural and undetectable to others. Many of our clients tell us that their friends or family might comment that they are looking well, refreshed, less tired, as if they have just come back from a relaxing holiday!

An experienced practitioner will have the skill and expertise required to place the dermal filler strategically to provide optimum treatment results, whilst still preserving a natural, enhanced appearance. Find a practitioner that will discuss and advise on which treatment/product placement is right for you, to help you achieve your treatment goals, whilst still maintaining a natural appearance.

Myth #4: Dermal fillers can replace a surgical facelift.

Fact
We offer a complete ‘non-surgical facelift’ option using only dermal fillers (and some wrinkle relaxing if desired), however dermal fillers cannot completely replace a traditional surgical facelift.

There are occasional incidences where the skin is just far too lax, and surgical intervention is required. There are however many ‘pros’ in considering dermal filler over surgical intervention in the first instance. It is much less invasive, and therefore carries considerably less risk. It is also completely reversible, so should you decide that you do not like the outcome, the dermal filler can be dissolved. Should you be unhappy with surgical treatment results, this would require revision surgery which again carries further risk.

You may be surprised just how much difference dermal fillers can make, even in those with moderate to severe skin laxity. It is always worth booking in for a consultation to seek some personalised, honest advice as to the best treatment options for you. We will always be honest in discussing expected treatment outcomes, and advise accordingly.

Myth #5: Fillers are made of toxic unsafe ingredients and are permanent and irreversible.

Fact
Long gone are the days of permanent or unsafe dermal filler products containing silicone and other unsafe materials.

Dermal fillers are now almost exclusively made out of pure hyaluronic acid. The beauty of this, is that it is highly biocompatible, meaning your body recognises it as we all have hyaluronic acid naturally occurring within our skin.

It is also completely reversible by using an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid should you not like the result, or wish to dissolve them for any reason. We often find that knowing this helps to reassure clients that may feel anxious or nervous about taking that first step in trying some dermal filler treatment.

Myth #6: Dermal Fillers are very painful.

Fact
Our aim is to try and make the treatment as comfortable as possible for you. There are of course some areas which are slightly more uncomfortable than others, but we do all we can to promote a positive, relaxed and comfortable experience.

We do this by providing a calm environment, that is not rushed, and takes into account the individual needs of each client, whether that’s supporting and encouraging a client with a needle phobia, or perhaps adapting and adjusting our treatment for someone that might be slightly more pain sensitive.

We allow ample time for use of a strong prescription strength topical numbing cream prior to treatment, and always ensure that a dermal filler we use contains a local anaesthetic agent. It is also worth finding a practitioner that can utilise different advanced injection techniques in order to help make the treatment as comfortable as possible for you, whilst still achieving optimum treatment outcomes.

Myth #7: Dermal filler will stretch my skin and once it wears off, my skin will be saggy and worse than it was before.

Fact
This is a really common misconception that we hear a lot! You absolutely will not be left looking worse than before should you decide to stop using dermal fillers. Over a period of time, the body very slowly and gradually breaks down the hyaluronic acid molecules. Once your body absorbs the filler over time, should you decide not to continue with future treatments, the skin will simply return to its previous condition.

If anything, the skin is likely to look better, as the hyaluronic acid will have boosted hydration levels and increased collagen production.

Myth #8: Dermal filler and Botox (Wrinkle relaxing injections) do the same thing.

Fact
When we see new clients for consultations that are completely new to injectables, they very often don’t understand the difference between these two injectable treatments.

Botox and dermal fillers are two completely different treatment options, that have two completely different modes of action. Put simply, dermal filler restores lost volume, which allows it to lift and enhance features. It can also be used to directly fill lines and wrinkles.

In contrast, Botox (wrinkle relaxing), relaxes the muscles that cause the lines and wrinkles to appear. This stops the skin from scrunching where the wrinkles form, thereby giving a smoother and fresher appearance.

As a general rule of thumb, dermal filler is used in the lower two thirds of the face, where lines, skin folds and jowls tend to be caused by volume loss, or to enhance features like lips.

Botox is generally used in the upper third of the face where the lines and wrinkles tend to be caused by muscle movement (however there are exceptions). Depending on your areas of concern and treatment goals, often a combination of the two gives the best results, as they both complement each other beautifully.

Hyperhidrosis – treatment for excess sweating

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes excess sweating. Hyperhidrosis treatment is used to treat excess sweating, most commonly in areas such as the underarms and hands.

How does it work?

Hyperhidrosis treatment works by blocking the nerves responsible for activating the sweat glands. Specifically, it inhibits the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates the sweat glands.

By preventing acetylcholine from binding to its receptors on the sweat glands, it reduces or eliminates sweating in the treated area.

The Process

1. Consultation: The first step is a consultation with a healthcare provider to determine if Hyperhidrosis is appropriate for the patient’s condition and to discuss potential risks and benefits.

2. Preparation: On the day of the procedure, the area to be treated is cleaned and marked. Sometimes, a topical anaesthetic or ice is applied to minimise discomfort.

3. Treatment: The product is injected just under the skin with a fine needle. Multiple injections are administered in a grid-like pattern to cover the entire area where excessive sweating occurs.

4. Post procedure: The procedure typically takes 20-30 minutes. Patients can usually resume normal activities immediately.

Results and Duration

Onset: The effects of Hyperhidrosis treatment start to become noticeable within a few days, with full results typically seen within two weeks.

Duration: The reduction in sweating usually lasts for 4 to 6 months. Repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the benefits.

Clinical studies and patient experiences have shown Hyperhidrosis treatment to be highly effective in significantly reducing sweating in targeted areas. It can improve the quality of life for individuals suffering from hyperhidrosis by providing a reliable and minimally invasive treatment option to the embarrassment caused by excessive sweating and sweat patches on clothing

Polynucleotides Anti Ageing Treatment

What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides have been used since 1986 in regenerative medicine and there are over 90 clinical studies and publications on its use.

Polynucleotides are a sequence of nucleotides, as found in DNA or RNA, that are bound to a chain.

Reverse Ageing: Polynucleotides are used to reverse ageing for an overall general skin improvement, tackling fine lines and wrinkles.

Water Balance: The treatment will regulate the maintenance of water balance that increases hydration, and has a regenerative and anti-inflammatory effect to reduce hyperpigmentation.

Collagen: Using them in regenerative medicine can help to stimulate the rate of cell proliferation and regeneration and encourage the synthesis of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

What can Polynucleotides treat?

The beauty of polynucleotides is that we can be very specific about which areas need treating and really target in on problem areas such as around the eyes, the perioral area, neck, décolletage or any area of specific concern for the client.

The treatment is performed by injecting micro droplets of the product placed superficially, or we can also use a cannula technique.

Timeless Beauty: A Comprehensive Guide to Anti-Wrinkle Treatments in the UK

Why Is Your Skin Starting to Age?

In the timeless pursuit of youthful, radiant skin, understanding why wrinkles occur, how to prevent them, and the benefits of dermal fillers is crucial. Welcome to our journey through the fascinating world of anti-wrinkle treatments. At Karma Clinic, we’re committed to helping you embrace your age gracefully and confidently. Read on to discover the secrets to achieving and maintaining ageless beauty.

The Science Behind Wrinkles

Before we delve into anti-wrinkle treatments, let’s explore why wrinkles form in the first place. Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process, caused by several factors:

Decreased Collagen and Elastin: As we age, our skin produces less collagen and elastin, proteins responsible for skin’s firmness and elasticity. This is a natural part of aging.

Sun Exposure: Prolonged exposure to harmful UV rays damages collagen fibres and accelerates the formation of wrinkles.

Facial Expressions: Repeated facial expressions, such as smiling or frowning, create lines over time, which can develop into wrinkles.

Lifestyle Choices: Smoking, poor nutrition, and inadequate hydration contribute to premature ageing and wrinkle formation.

Prevention is Key

Preventing wrinkles is the first line of defence against ageing skin. Whilst we are not suggesting you stop smiling and laughing, there are some things you can do to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkle. Here are some tips to help reduce the likelihood of wrinkles:

a) Sun Protection: Embrace the British tradition of carrying an umbrella and wearing a wide-brimmed hat to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Always use broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors.

b) Hydration: Keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water and using moisturisers containing hyaluronic acid to retain moisture.

c) Balanced Diet: Consume a diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids, which promote skin health. British-grown fruits and vegetables are perfect for this.

d) Quit Smoking: Kick the habit to improve your skin’s texture and prevent premature ageing.

The Role of a Good Skincare Routine

A consistent skincare routine is essential in the battle against wrinkles. Here’s a simple, effective regimen to incorporate into your daily life:

a) Cleansing: Begin and end your day by gently cleansing your skin to remove impurities and makeup.

b) Exfoliation: Use a mild exfoliant 2-3 times a week to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover.

c) Serums: Apply anti-ageing serums with ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, and peptides to target specific skin concerns.

d) Moisturising: Use a hydrating moisturiser appropriate for your skin type to maintain moisture balance.

e) Sunscreen: Always finish your morning routine with sunscreen to protect your skin from UV damage.

Dermal Fillers – A Revolutionary Solution

While prevention is essential, wrinkles may still appear over time. This is where dermal fillers come into play. Dermal fillers are a non-surgical treatment option gaining popularity in the UK for their remarkable ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Dermal fillers, often made of hyaluronic acid, are injected beneath the skin’s surface to add volume, smooth wrinkles, and restore youthful contours. Dermal fillers can be used to target various areas, including nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and lips, helping you achieve a more youthful appearance.

Dermal Fillers help the production of the naturally occurring collagen found in your body. Collagen helps keep the body plump and youthful, restoring volume to the skin and keeping it soft.

The Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Immediate Results: You’ll notice a difference right after the treatment.

Non-Invasive: Dermal fillers are a non-surgical alternative to traditional facelifts.

Customisable: Aesthetics nurses can tailor treatments to your unique needs, ensuring a natural look.

Minimal Downtime: Most people can resume their daily activities shortly after the procedure.

Choosing the Right Provider

Selecting a reputable provider for dermal fillers is paramount. Look for an experienced aesthetics nurse or practitioner who is trained in administering fillers safely and effectively. At Karma Clinic, our skilled team of aesthetics nurses are dedicated to delivering top-notch anti-wrinkle treatments tailored to your needs and desires.

Understanding the advantages of medical weight loss

What is medical weight loss?

Are you tired of trying numerous diets and exercise plans without seeing significant results? Do you find yourself constantly worrying about your weight and struggling to maintain a healthy lifestyle? If so, medical weight loss might be the solution you’ve been searching for. In this blog, we will explore the advantages of medical weight loss and how it can help you achieve your desired goals.

Medical weight loss refers to a comprehensive and supervised weight management programme conducted under the guidance of healthcare professionals. Unlike fad diets or quick-fix solutions, this weight loss takes a personalised and evidence-based approach to help individuals achieve sustainable weight loss. These programmes are designed to address the underlying factors contributing to weight gain and provide a long-term solution to maintain a healthy weight.

The advantages of medical weight loss

Personalised approach

One of the key advantages of guided weight loss is the personalised approach tailored to your specific needs. A registered nurse works together with to develop a customised plan that suits your body, lifestyle, and goals. This individualised approach ensures that you receive targeted guidance and support throughout your weight loss journey, increasing the likelihood of successful outcomes.

Comprehensive evaluation and monitoring

Medical weight loss programmes involve a thorough evaluation of your overall health, including factors like medical history, current medications, and any underlying conditions. This comprehensive assessment allows healthcare professionals to identify potential obstacles to weight loss and develop appropriate strategies to overcome them. Moreover, regular monitoring and follow-up appointments ensure that progress is tracked, and adjustments can be made as necessary, maximising the effectiveness of the programme.

Evidence-based strategies

Unlike many fad diets and quick-fix solutions, medical weight loss programmes are based on scientific evidence and proven strategies. Healthcare professionals utilise their knowledge and expertise to prescribe medication to support sustainable weight loss. This evidence-based approach not only helps you shed excess weight but also equips you with the tools and knowledge needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle long-term.

Additional benefits of medical weight loss

Medical supervision

One of the most significant advantages of guided weight loss programmes is the presence of medical supervision. Healthcare professionals closely monitor your progress, ensuring that you’re losing weight in a safe and healthy manner. They can also address any concerns or complications that may arise during the programme, providing you with peace of mind and professional guidance every step of the way.

Addressing underlying health conditions

Many individuals struggle with weight gain due to underlying health conditions such as hormonal imbalances or metabolic disorders. Guided weight loss programmes take these factors into account and aim to address them alongside weight management. By targeting the root causes of weight gain, these programmes can improve overall health and well-being, helping you achieve sustainable weight loss and optimal health outcomes.

Long-term support and maintenance

Weight loss programmes go beyond short-term weight loss goals and focus on providing long-term support and maintenance. Once you’ve achieved your target weight, healthcare professionals can help you develop strategies to maintain your new healthy lifestyle. They provide ongoing support, education, and resources, empowering you to make informed choices and prevent weight regain.

How Does the National Medical Weight Loss Programme Work?

The NMWLP is a meticulously designed program aimed at managing appetite, reducing hunger, controlling cravings, moderating portion sizes, and facilitating the release of stored fat to facilitate effective weight loss. This is achieved through the utilisation of specifically prescribed self-administered medication, which can be conveniently administered at home.

Initiating the program involves an extensive medical consultation conducted by our Registered Nurse. During this consultation, a comprehensive assessment of weight loss strategies is undertaken, along with an evaluation of your overall health and well-being.

Upon determination of medication suitability, patients are provided with a user-friendly pre-filled pen for at-home self-administration on a daily or weekly basis, depending on the selected treatment option. The initial Consultation, conducted in-clinic by the nurse, spans approximately 1 hour, followed by the prescription of at-home treatment. Throughout the course of the treatment program, routine Review Consultations are scheduled to ensure consistent progress and optimal results.

The Significance of Selecting a Qualified Aesthetics Practitioner in the UK

Feel confident in your choice of aesthetics practitioner

In recent years, aesthetic treatments have gained immense popularity in the United Kingdom as people seek ways to enhance their appearance and boost their self-confidence. From dermal fillers to advanced facials, the allure of quick and minimally invasive procedures is hard to resist. However, amidst this growing trend, a crucial aspect cannot be overlooked: the importance of choosing a qualified aesthetics practitioner. This blog will explore why selecting a skilled and qualified practitioner is paramount for achieving the desired results and ensuring your safety and well-being.

What is an Aesthetician?

Aesthetic practitioners are accomplished skincare experts poised to transform your beauty regimen. Within the confines of luxurious salons or the world of cosmetics, these skilled skincare experts dedicate themselves to your skin’s every need. More than mere beauty therapists, aestheticians possess a profound understanding of skincare that propels them beyond the ordinary.

Diving deeper, aestheticians transcend the boundaries of conventional beauty therapists, elevating their expertise to unparalleled heights. Within their skilful hands, non-invasive treatments unfold, promising a journey of rejuvenation that’s nothing short of transformative. Should you seek solace from acne’s grasp or yearn to vanquish the clutches of eczema, aestheticians stand ready, armed with the knowledge to breathe life into your aspirations.

What is a medical aesthetician?

Medical aestheticians emerge as maestros, their qualifications and licenses providing them with the canvas to perform intricate medical skin procedures within the hallowed halls of clinics. In aesthetics, they wear various monikers – clinical aestheticians or esteemed aesthetic nurses. Their mastery extends over an array of intricate processes, a symphony of artistry that includes the delicate notes of laser therapy, the nuanced strokes of dermal fillers, and even the bold crescendos of cosmetic surgery.

Unlike their counterparts, these aesthetic visionaries carry the mantle of educators. They’re not merely conductors of procedures but orchestrate conversations that enlighten and empower. With a wellspring of knowledge, they engage in dialogues with clients, elucidating their skin’s mysteries and co-creating bespoke treatment plans that resonate with each canvas. Their realm extends to the use of needles, emboldening them to administer not just pampering but evasive procedures with an expert’s touch.

The Risks of Inexperienced Practitioners

In a realm where beauty and self-improvement are at the forefront, it’s easy to get caught up in the allure of bargain deals and quick fixes. However, opting for aesthetic treatments from inexperienced or unqualified practitioners can have dire consequences. The UK government’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has reported an alarming increase in adverse events and complications resulting from procedures performed by untrained individuals. Horror stories of infections, disfigurements, and botched procedures have become all too common, leaving patients disillusioned and physically and emotionally scarred.

The MHRA, along with other regulatory bodies such as the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), emphasise the importance of verifying the credentials and qualifications of practitioners before undergoing any aesthetic procedure. Researching a practitioner’s training, certifications, and affiliations is vital to ensure they adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and competence.

The Expertise of Qualified Aesthetics Practitioners

Qualified aesthetics practitioners in the UK undergo rigorous training, education, and certification processes. These individuals possess an in-depth understanding of facial anatomy, product selection, and injection techniques. They are well-versed in assessing individual needs and tailoring treatments to achieve the most natural and harmonious results.

Regulations set forth by bodies such as the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) and the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN) ensure that practitioners meet specific competency and safety standards. By choosing a practitioner who is a member of a recognised professional organisation, you can rest assured that you are in the hands of an expert committed to upholding the highest level of patient care.

Ensuring Safety and Natural Results

One of the primary concerns when undergoing aesthetic treatments is safety. Qualified practitioners prioritise patient safety by adhering to strict hygiene, sterilisation, and infection control protocols. They work in clean and regulated environments that meet the standards set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), a government body responsible for ensuring healthcare services maintain the necessary quality and safety standards.

Furthermore, experienced aesthetics practitioners focus on achieving natural-looking results that enhance a patient’s features without resorting to drastic or unnatural alterations. This commitment to creating subtle yet impactful changes is a hallmark of a practitioner who values ethical practices and prioritises the well-being of their patients.

Why is winter the ideal time for IPL hair removal treatment?

Why is winter the ideal time for IPL hair removal treatment?

IPL (intense pulsed light) is a treatment used for the long-term (permanent) removal of external body hair.

This treatment is always best carried out during winter. This is because, your skin must not have an active tan whilst under-going any IPL treatments. By an active tan, we mean pigment in the skin, so that nice shade of brown (or red!) that you go during the summer months.

This doesn’t mean you can’t have IPL during the summer months, but you must be extremely careful with your sun exposure. It is therefore clear to see why IPL is the perfect treatment to take during winter! You can complete a course of hair removal without having to worry about sun exposure, and be hair free in time for next summer.

How does IPL hair removal work?

IPL hair removal uses intense pulsed light to target each individual hair follicle right from the base, stopping the hair from re-growing. After a cycle of treatments taken at specific durations, the IPL will have targeted the hair follicle at each of it’s life cycles, which results in the end of that hair follicles growth. Put simply, your hair will stop growing (hurrah!).

Things you should think about before having IPL hair removal:

  • You cannot have any natural or fake tan on your skin during your course of treatments.
  • You must not have any perfumes, oils or creams on your skin on the day of treatment.
  • There are certain medications that will contraindicate this treatment, you will need to make your practitioner aware of your medical history during your consultation.

How to start the process

To get started with your IPL hair removal treatment you first need a Free Consultation and Patch Test. At this consultation, your practitioner will go through with you in detail how the treatment works, and will make sure you are suitable for treatment. Following this, a small patch test will be carried out to the treatment area. For this to take place, there will need to be a little hair growth showing through the skin in the treatment area.

Following your consultation, once seven days have passed, you can book in for your first treatment. The length of your treatment will be determined by the treatment area being treatment, but can be anything between 15 minutes to 1.5 hours.

Your course of treatments will be taken every four to six weeks, and a minimum of five treatments will be needed. Your practitioner will explain all of this to you during your consultation.

Following the successful completion of your IPL hair removal course (also known as laser hair removal) your treatment area will no longer grow hair, and you won’t need to shave or wax the area anymore. We do recommend one singular treatment annually, to keep the hair follicle dormant and stopping the hair from re-growing.

How to book

To book your Free Consultation and Patch Test you can:

Dermaplaning – What is it?

Dermaplaning; what is it?

You may have heard about this on-trend facial but are you unclear on what it actually is? If so, let us help you.

The Process

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive short treatment, used to slough off all the debris sitting on the very top layer of the skin (the epidermis). By using a hand held scalpel, your highly experienced Practitioner will gently scrape away any congestion and impurities sitting on your skins surface. This action exfoliates the skin at the same time as removing the superficial layer of ‘peach fuzz’.

The Skincare

As well as this, you will receive tailored skincare within the facial from the medical grade skincare, AlumierMD. Adapting the products used to suit your individual skincare needs, you can sit back and relax whilst you are deep cleansed, exfoliated, and treated with targeted serums.
This simple treatment is one of the most effective out there, offering instant results with visibly clearer skin and an unparalleled soft-to-touch finish.
